Plumbing fittings
Plumbing fittings are used to connect sections of pipe
and tubes. This allows for different angles to be met. It also provides
a way for changes in pipe size or shape to be achieved. Fittings may
also aid in regulating the flow of water or other fluids between pipes
and tubes.
The material used for plumbing fittings is generally the same as the
material used for whatever piping or tubing sections it is connecting.
Steel, copper, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and other plastics are examples
of possible materials. Though the fitting and pipe material types generally
match, it is not required that they do.
General styles of plumbing fittings include elbow, cross, tee, and
coupling. These are also useable with pipes in general. Fittings more
specific to plumbing include closet flanges, trap primers, and sanitary
tees.
