Plumbing pipe
Plumbing pipe has been created from many different materials
throughout history. In ancient times, wood and lead were used. In fact,
the term “plumbing” came from the Latin word for lead, plumbum.
Today, plumbing pipe may be created from plastic, metal, concrete,
and ceramic. Common types of metal used include steel, brass, and ductile
iron. An especially popular metal option is copper.
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyethylene (PE), polybutylene (PB), and
acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) are common plastic plumbing pipe
materials. Plastic is an excellent choice because it is lightweight
and easy for making connections. In addition to those qualities, it
is also non-corrosive and chemical resistant.
