Plumbing supplies FAQs

What is plumber’s putty?

This is an inexpensive sealant used to adhere different plumbing parts together lightly. It has many different uses and is excellent for creating quick repairs. For some situations, a stronger sealant, such as silicon, may be a better choice (although it takes much longer to set.)

What could cause a toilet to empty itself of water even though no one is around to flush it?

The majority of the time this sort of situation is caused by poor ventilation. Air trapped in a system which is not venting properly can only escape through the sewer. It will often pull water back with it, known as “back-siphonage”.

What can I do to prevent clogged drains?

An important first step is to never poor grease down a drain. Instead, allow it to harden then scoop it out into the garbage. In many situations, it may be helpful to utilize a drain screen. Finally, pouring hot or boiling water down a drain on a regular basis is an excellent way to reduce the likelihood of a clog developing.
